What's great about our PDF margin tool

    • Your PDFs never leave your device. Every page is changed right in your browser.
    • Add white space on all sides or on just one, for notes, binding or printing.
    • Grow the page, or shrink the content to keep the page size.
    • Text stays real text, and links move with it.
    • Add margins to many PDFs at once, with a ZIP download.
    • Free, no limits, no watermark, and it works offline after your first visit.

How it works

Each page you chose gets its content placed with one move, and a scale when the content shrinks. The page is given its new size, and the content is clipped to what was visible. Nothing is turned into a picture. Links and notes are moved by the same transformation.

After the file is made, it is opened again and compared with your original: the page count, text, rotation and links must match, and every page must have exactly the size it was meant to have. If anything differs, no file is produced for that PDF.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is my PDF uploaded anywhere? No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
  • Can I change only some of the pages? Yes. Click pages in the preview to pick them (or drag across several), use All, First, Last, Odd or Even, or type a range such as 1-3, 5. With nothing picked, every page is changed. Pages you do not pick stay exactly as they were.
  • What is the difference between Grow Page and Shrink Content? Grow Page makes each page bigger by the margin, so the content keeps its size. Shrink Content keeps the page size and shrinks the content to leave the margin inside it.
  • How do I leave room for binding? Choose 'Left' as the Side and a margin of 15 to 25 mm. Use Shrink Content to keep the page size, so the pages still print on standard paper.
  • Is the page turned into a picture? No. The content is placed with one move (and a scale for Shrink Content), so text stays real text, and the text stays selectable and searchable.
  • Do links still work? Yes. Links and notes move with the page, so they stay on what they were on.
  • Is the margin white? The margin is empty, which a viewer or printer shows as white paper.
  • Which PDFs are not supported? Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the password first with PDF Password Unlock. Digitally signed PDFs can be processed, but rewriting the file invalidates the signature.

What happens to your file

Nothing is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked. Your PDFs stay in your browser's memory until you remove them or close the page. The margins become part of each page, so they cannot be removed afterwards.

How to get the most out of it

  • For a bound document, add a Left margin of about 20 mm with Shrink Content.
  • For room to write notes, add a wide Right margin with Grow Page.
  • To add margins and also change the paper size, use Resize PDF Pages afterwards.
  • Keep your original file. The changes cannot be undone once the PDF is saved.
