What's great about our PDF note tool

    • Your PDFs never leave your device. Every note is added right in your browser.
    • Coloured sticky-note boxes with your own words, wrapped to the width you choose.
    • Five note colours and your own.
    • Move, resize, edit, Undo and delete any note before you save.
    • Add notes to many PDFs at once, with a ZIP download.
    • Free, no limits, no watermark, and it works offline after your first visit.
  2. 01

    Add your PDFs

Choose PDFs or drag them into the preview. The first PDF opens as a vertical list of large pages, which is the easiest place to place notes. Use Add More to add others later.

  3. 02

    Add notes

    • Type your note. It appears at once on the page you are looking at, already selected, so pick a colour, a size and a width and drag it where it should go. Click on another spot of a page to add the note there too.
    • Click a note to select it. Drag it to move it, edit it in the box, drag the square on its right edge to change its width, or press Delete. Undo steps back.
    • Press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on a Mac) to select every note in your PDFs, then change the options to change them all.
    • Press Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V (Cmd+C then Cmd+V on a Mac) to copy the selected note and paste it where your pointer is on the page.
  4. 03

    Add Notes and download

Click Add Notes, then Download. Change anything and the button goes back to Add Notes, ready for another run. Several PDFs download together as a ZIP.

How it works

A note is text on a coloured box with a thin edge, added over the page with one of the PDF standard fonts, so it stays sharp at any zoom and can be selected and searched. Because the page itself is never redrawn, its own text, images, links and forms stay exactly as they were.

After the file is made, it is opened again and compared with your original: the page count, page sizes, rotation, text and links must all match what they should. If anything differs, no file is produced for that PDF.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is my PDF uploaded anywhere? No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
  • How do I add a note? Type your note and it appears on the page you are looking at. Drag it where its top left corner should go, or click on another spot to add more. Click it afterwards to select it, and whatever you type or change changes it.
  • How do I change the size of a note? Use the Width slider, or select the note and drag the square on its right edge. The text wraps to fit, and the box grows taller as needed.
  • Is this a real PDF comment? No. The note is drawn on the page as a coloured box with text, so it shows in every PDF viewer and prints. It is not a pop-up comment that can be hidden.
  • Will the page underneath change? No. The note is added over the page, and the page itself is never redrawn. The note does cover what is under it from view.
  • Can the notes be removed later? They become part of the page, so they cannot be removed once the PDF is saved. Keep your original file if you might want the page without them.
  • Which PDFs are not supported? Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the password first with PDF Password Unlock. Digitally signed PDFs can be processed, but rewriting the file invalidates the signature.

What happens to your file

Nothing is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked. Your PDFs stay in your browser's memory until you remove them or close the page. The notes become part of each page, so they cannot be removed afterwards.

How to get the most out of it

  • Use a different colour for each person or kind of comment.
  • Put a note beside the text it is about, not on top of it.
  • To point at something, add an arrow with Add Arrow to PDF.
  • Keep your original file. Marks cannot be edited once the PDF is saved.
