What's great about our PDF link tool

    • Your PDFs never leave your device. Every link is added right in your browser.
    • Link any area to a web address, an email address, a phone number or a page.
    • Real, clickable links that work in any PDF viewer, shown with a line, a highlight or an outline in any colour, or not shown at all.
    • Move, resize, Undo and delete any link before you save.
    • Add links to many PDFs at once, with a ZIP download.
    • Free, no limits, no watermark, and it works offline after your first visit.
  2. 01

    Add your PDFs

Choose PDFs or drag them into the preview. The first PDF opens as a vertical list of large pages, which is the easiest place to add links. Use Add More to add others later.

  3. 02

    Add links

    • Choose 'Web Address' or Page, and type the address or the page number.
    • Under Link Look, choose how the linked area shows, and its colour. None shows nothing.
    • Drag a box over the words or picture that should be clickable.
    • Click a box to select it. Drag it to move it, drag a square to resize it, change where it goes, or press Delete. Undo steps back.
    • Press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on a Mac) to select every link in your PDFs, then change the options to change them all.
    • Press Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V (Cmd+C then Cmd+V on a Mac) to copy the selected link and paste it where your pointer is on the page.
  4. 03

    Add Links and download

Click Add Links, then Download. Change anything and the button goes back to Add Links, ready for another run. Several PDFs download together as a ZIP.

How it works

A link is a clickable area on the page that holds a web address or a page to jump to. With Link Look on None nothing is drawn, so the page looks exactly as before and its text, images and forms stay as they were. A line, highlight or outline is drawn over the page and its text is never touched. The blue box you see is only a guide on the preview.

After the file is made, it is opened again and compared with your original: the page count, page sizes, rotation, text and the number of links must all match what they should. If anything differs, no file is produced for that PDF.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is my PDF uploaded anywhere? No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
  • How do I add a link? Choose what it goes to, type the address or the page number, then drag a box over the words or picture on the page. To link words, set 'Drag Over' to 'Text' and drag across them, or double click a word. The box is shown in blue on the preview only.
  • Does the blue box show in the saved PDF? No. The blue box is only a guide on the preview. In the saved PDF the link shows however you chose under Link Look: with 'None' it is invisible and the page looks exactly as before, and only the pointer changes when you move over it.
  • What can a link go to? A web address (https), an email address (we add mailto:), a phone number (tel:) or another page of the same PDF. Other kinds of address are not accepted.
  • How do I change a link after drawing it? Click a mark on the page to select it: it gets a dashed blue outline. Then you can drag it to move it, drag a small square to resize it, change its options, or press Delete. Changing the address or page number changes the selected link.
  • Will the page underneath change? Not unless you choose to. Links are added as clickable areas, and with Link Look on 'None' nothing is drawn on the page. 'Underline', 'Dotted', 'Dashed', 'Highlight' and 'Box' draw a simple mark over the linked area, which becomes part of the page.
  • Can the links be removed later? They become part of the page, so they cannot be removed once the PDF is saved. Keep your original file if you might want the page without them.
  • Which PDFs are not supported? Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the password first with PDF Password Unlock. Digitally signed PDFs can be processed, but rewriting the file invalidates the signature.

What happens to your file

Nothing is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked. Your PDFs stay in your browser's memory until you remove them or close the page. The links become part of each page, so they cannot be removed afterwards.

How to get the most out of it

  • Make the box a little larger than the words so it is easy to click.
  • Use Page links for a contents page. Use Reorganize PDF Pages first if the pages are not in order.
  • To make a link easy to spot, choose 'Underline' or Highlight under Link Look.
  • Keep your original file. Marks cannot be edited once the PDF is saved.
