    Add your PDFs

    Remove the bookmarks

    • Click Remove Bookmarks. Each PDF gives a copy without bookmarks.

    Remove Bookmarks and download

    Click Remove Bookmarks, then Download. Change any option and the button goes back to Remove Bookmarks, ready for another run. Several files download together as a ZIP.

How it works

The outline of the PDF is deleted together with every bookmark in it, and the file is saved again.

The result is checked against the original: it must have the same pages, with the same text, sizes and links.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is my PDF uploaded anywhere? No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
  • Why remove bookmarks? Bookmarks sometimes carry old chapter titles, draft names or internal notes. Removing them before sharing keeps those private, or lets you start again with Create PDF Bookmarks.
  • Do the pages change? No. Only the outline in the side panel is removed. Links inside the pages keep working.
  • Does it remove links too? No. Links on the pages are separate from bookmarks.
  • The PDF has no bookmarks. What then? You get a message and no file.
  • Can I get the bookmarks back? Not from the new file. Keep your original, or write the list down with PDF Info Viewer first.
  • Which PDFs are not supported? Password-protected PDFs cannot be changed. Digitally signed PDFs can be processed, but rewriting the file invalidates the signature.

What happens to your file

Nothing is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked. Your files stay in your browser's memory until you remove them or close the page. The new PDF is made on your device. The original is not changed.

How to get the most out of it

  • Keep your original: removed bookmarks cannot be brought back.
  • Add a fresh outline afterwards with Create PDF Bookmarks.
  • Use PDF Sanitizer to remove hidden data at the same time.
