How it works

Each page is placed on a sheet as a form made of its own text and graphics, scaled to fit its place and centred. Nothing is turned into a picture, so text stays real text and graphics stay sharp at any zoom.

After the file is made, it is opened again and compared with your original: it must have the right number of sheets, each the right size, and all the text of your pages must be there. If anything differs, no file is produced for that PDF.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is my PDF uploaded anywhere? No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
  • How are the pages ordered on the sheet? Left to right, then top to bottom, like reading a page. Page 1 is the top left of the first sheet.
  • Which layouts are there? 1 page (the page on its own sheet, so you can change only the sheet size), 2 pages (side by side, on a landscape sheet), 4 pages (2 × 2, portrait), 6 pages (3 × 2, landscape) and 9 pages (3 × 3, portrait).
  • What if my pages have different sizes? Each page is shrunk to fit its own place on the sheet, keeping its shape and centred, so mixed sizes work.
  • Does the text stay selectable and searchable? Yes. Pages are never turned into pictures, so text stays real text and vector graphics stay sharp.
  • Do links still work? No. Pages are placed on the sheet as pictures of the page made of its own text and graphics, and links are not carried across. The text and graphics are not changed.
  • How can I print it? Print the new PDF at Actual Size or 100%. The pages are already placed, so the printer does not need to shrink them.
  • Which PDFs are not supported? Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the password first with PDF Password Unlock. Digitally signed PDFs can be processed, but rewriting the file invalidates the signature.

What happens to your file

Nothing is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked. Your PDFs stay in your browser's memory until you remove them or close the page. The finished PDF is a new file. Your original is never changed.

How to get the most out of it

  • Use 4 pages per sheet for handouts, and 2 for large print.
  • Turn Borders on when pages have white backgrounds, so each page stands out.
  • Print on both sides of the paper to save even more.
  • For a folded booklet, use Booklet PDF instead.
