How it works

Each blank page is a new, empty page of the same size as the page it goes next to. The other pages are only moved, never changed, so their content, links and notes stay as they were.

After the file is made, it is opened again and compared with your original: the number of pages, the size and turn of every page and all the text must be what they should be. If anything differs, no file is produced for that PDF.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is my PDF uploaded anywhere? No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
  • Which pages do I pick? Pick the pages that the blank pages go next to. With After, a blank page goes after each picked page. With Before, it goes before each one. Nothing is added until you pick a page.
  • What size are the blank pages? Each blank page is the size of the page it goes next to, as it is viewed, so mixed sizes still look right.
  • Why would I add blank pages? To start chapters on a right-hand page when printing double-sided, to leave room for notes, or to separate sections.
  • Does the text stay selectable and searchable? Yes. Pages are never turned into pictures, so text stays real text and vector graphics stay sharp.
  • Can I add a blank page at the start? Yes. Pick page 1 and choose 'Before'.
  • Which PDFs are not supported? Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the password first with PDF Password Unlock. Digitally signed PDFs can be processed, but rewriting the file invalidates the signature.

What happens to your file

Nothing is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked. Your PDFs stay in your browser's memory until you remove them or close the page. The finished PDF is a new file. Your original is never changed.

How to get the most out of it

  • For double-sided printing, add a blank page before a chapter that starts on an odd page.
  • Add a blank page after the cover so the first page opens on the right.
  • To remove pages again, use Delete PDF Pages or Remove Blank Pages.
