How it works

The title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer are written into the details stored with the file, the language into the document itself, and the window bar choice into the viewer settings. Nothing on the pages is read or changed.

After the file is made, it is opened again and compared with your original: the page count, text, page sizes, rotation and links must all match what they should. If anything differs, no file is produced for that PDF.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is my PDF uploaded anywhere? No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
  • What is PDF metadata? Details stored with a PDF that are not on its pages: the title shown in a viewer tab, the author, the subject and keywords that search tools use.
  • What happens to an empty box? With Empty Boxes set to 'Keep Fields', an empty box leaves that field as it is. With Clear Fields, an empty box removes that field from the PDF.
  • How do I write the keywords? Separate them with commas, for example invoice, 2026, travel.
  • Does this change the pages? No. Only the details stored with the file are changed. The pages, text, links and pictures are exactly as they were.
  • Can I use it on many PDFs? Yes. The same details are set in every PDF you added.
  • Will my viewer show the new title? Most viewers show the title in the window or tab. Some show the file name instead, unless they are set to show the document title.
  • Which PDFs are not supported? Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the password first with PDF Password Unlock. Digitally signed PDFs can be processed, but rewriting the file invalidates the signature.

What happens to your file

Nothing is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked. Your PDFs stay in your browser's memory until you remove them or close the page. The finished PDF is a new file. Your original is never changed.

How to get the most out of it

  • Set a clear title so the PDF shows a useful name in browser tabs and search results.
  • To remove all details instead, use Remove PDF Metadata.
  • Check the result in a viewer that shows document properties.
